Successful Second INHORGENTA TRENDFACTORY in Cologne

After the successful premiere of the INHORGENTA TRENDFACTORY 2015 in Hamburg, the industry get-together took place in collaboration with the German Federal Association of Jewelers, Jewelry and Watch Retailers (Bundesverband der Juweliere - BVJ) at the Rotonda Business Club in Cologne on October 4. First of all, Dr. Ulrich Henn from the German Gemmological Association (Deutsche Gemmologische Gesellschaft) and Jochen Müller, President of the Idar-Oberstein Diamond and Gemstone Exchange (Diamant- und Edelsteinbörse Idar-Oberstein) provided interesting background information on natural and synthetic diamonds. The experts in precious stones gave valuable tips for daily business.
The topic of digitalization, which does not spare the jewelry and watch industry either, took center-stage. In this respect, Dr. Jens Rothenstein from the Institute for Trade Research (IFH-Institut für Handelsforschung), Marius Schafelner (juweliere.de), Stefan Schmahl (Uhrzeit.org) as well as Stephan Lindner (Juwelier Fridrich), President of the BVJ, were unanimous: jewelers must also be equipped for the online market. "Cross channel is the only future. It is indispensable to have a presence in both channels. Online showcases become increasingly important," states Dr. Rothenstein. Stefan Schmahl added: "We consider the mere distinction between online and offline to be unsuited to the modern world. The online customer no longer exists, there are only customers." And Stephan Lindner stated: "Only jewelers who are prepared to meet the challenges of the digital world and position themselves accordingly will continue to exist in ten or twenty years' time."
An exiting debate – that was also the opinion of Stefanie Mändlein, Exhibition Director of INHORGENTA MUNICH: "It has become clear that the industry's digitalization opens up big opportunities. If we join forces, we can meet this challenge." How these endeavors will succeed and the possibilities of networking and doing business in the digital world will be shown at INHORGENTA MUNICH 2017.
