Hall C1 is the »gemstone hall« at inhorgenta
europe 2010. Here, the gemstone industry
of Idar-Oberstein is presenting modern gemstone
designs and precious and rare stones from
the past through to the present day as part of
various exhibitions. Curator of the German
Gemstone Museum in Idar-Oberstein, Manfred
Wild, has put together a unique collection
of objects and engravings for visitors at inhorgenta
europe 2010 to admire to mark the 150
year anniversary of the museum. A ruby Siddharta,
for example, sits serenely in a crystalline
lotus flower admiring the display cases
around him. These include agate toads, containers
made from finely cut agate, opals or
beryl. A historic snuff tin from the collection
of the Saxon Duke Anton Ulrich is also included.
The sophisticated engravings of the Idar-
Oberstein gemstone artists are represented
with a selection of modern and historic gemstones
and engravings. Prize-winning items by
German jewellery and gemstone designers
complete the scope of this exhibition which
gives visitors an impression of the beauty of
the exhibits present in the Idar-Oberstein Gemstone
Museum.
The second special exhibition features jewellery
designs with a touch of innovation. Students
from the Idar-Oberstein and Lappeenranta
(Finland) Colleges of Design gathered
together at a workshop in Finland as part of
the »Stone Matters II« collaborative project
and the results of this project are displayed
here. The project focused ambiguity since
»Stone Matters II« can be interpreted both as
»matters made from stone« and »stone which
matters«. During the workshops led by Theo
Smeets and Eija Mustonen , the young designers
also designed the innovative trade fair
stand. Their creations are displayed on rubber
tyres distributed and hanging across the
area. |
